The History of Chess

Chess is one of the oldest and most popular board games, dating as far back as the 15th century. It originated from the Indian game Chatarung and spread through Asia and Europe, evolving into the game we know today.

How to Play Chess

The game is played between two opponents, with each opponent on opposite of the board having an army of 16 chess pieces to control and use to try and checkmate the opponents king.

Pieces

In chess each player has 8 pawns, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 2 rooks, and a queen and a king.
Pawns are worth 1 point, knights and bishops are both worth 3 points, the rook is worth 5 points, and the queen is the most valuable piece (apart from the king) being worth 9 points.

Chess Board

The chess pieces should be arranged so that the rook is in the corner, and then the knights next to them, followed by the bishops, and then finally the king and queen, with a pawn in front each piece. The square the queen is on should also be the same color as her.
